Documentation & Wiki
Monday, February 26th, 2007Who does not know the pain on documenting projects and collaborating on those documents with others?
Sure there are several technics on how to realize that but is there any as smart as using a Wiki for that purpose?
With my company we decided giving twiki a go, not only because it is completely written in Perl…
Together with my sales & marketing director Hauke Böttcher we worked out a detailled template listing all relevant informations for project documentation. As soon as a new topic gets created in our Wiki informations concerning the client get pulled out of our customer database, i. e. OTRS.
For doing so we simply use the database plugin for twiki that perfectly works with MySQL.
Afterwards the mentioned template is assigned to the new topic and the author can start filling in informations. Easy isn’t it?
Due to the fact that our Wiki is neither worldreadable nor -writable we are using the LDAP plugin for twiki that provides LDAP as authentication mechanism.
Basically we are still testing our setup but I will keep reporting the experiences I made with twiki.
Pure and simple.
